New Investments Expand Reform Initiatives in Kansas City’s Urban School Districts

KANSAS CITY, MO. -- The Kansas City, Kansas School District (KCKSD) and the Kansas City, Missouri School District (KCMSD) today launched a new, $2.8 million collaborative effort for the redesign projects in both Kansas City districts’ schools. The effort reflects the continued need to ensure that all students receive a high-quality education for success in college and work, and builds on the progress of district-wide reform efforts currently underway in both districts.

This marks the first time the two school districts have combined forces to improve the quality of schools and increase graduation and college readiness rates in the Kansas City area.  This new phase in the school redesign initiative is being supported by national and local funders including the Bill & Melinda Gates  Foundation, the Sprint Foundation, Hall Family Foundation, H & R Block Foundation, American Century Foundation, John W. and Effie E. Speas Memorial Trust (Bank of America, Trustee) and the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority, as well as support from the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City, and the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation
