Maike Scharp
Dr. Maike Scharp leads the foundation’s efforts to support development of diagnostic tools and devices and end-to-end diagnostic platforms for enteric and diarrheal diseases in low- and middle-income countries. She also leads the foundation’s efforts to strengthen the women’s health R&D ecosystem. In that role, she chairs the Innovation Equity Forum, a multidisciplinary coalition of women’s health experts, researchers, innovators, and advocates from 50 countries that was created by the foundation and the U.S. National Institutes of Health in 2023. She joined the foundation in 2021 as a deputy director in the Foundation Strategy Office.
Earlier, Maike was a partner at Boston Consulting Group, where she led efforts in strategy development, portfolio prioritization, operating model innovation, data and analytics, and change management for biopharmaceutical, commercial, R&D, and global health clients. She also worked as a physician in radio-oncology and palliative care and spent time in Uganda working closely with the country’s ministry of health through the Clinton Health Access Initiative.
Maike earned a medical doctorate from Heidelberg University and has a Master of Science in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
