David Sotto leads strategy development and business operations for the Women’s Health Innovations team, which works to advance women’s health R&D in contraception, gynecological care, and infectious diseases. David works closely with global and regional partners—including national and state governments in Africa and South Asia, multilateral organizations, and private-sector entities—to advance the R&D and product introduction ecosystem in support of women and girls.
Before joining the Gates Foundation in 2018, David worked at McKinsey & Company, focusing on health systems design and health policy.
David has a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D., both in biomedical engineering, from the Georgia Institute of Technology. His research focused on nanoparticle synthesis and novel drug delivery methods.
A child of Cuban immigrants, David grew up in Miami, Florida.
