Darin Spurgeon

Director, Strategy, Planning & Management and Chief of Staff

Darin Spurgeon oversees strategy and operations in the foundation’s Global Policy & Advocacy Division and is the division’s chief of staff. Since joining the foundation in 2012, he has also served as deputy director for strategy, planning, and management on the Program Advocacy and Communications, External Communications, and Africa teams as well as Europe advisor.

Before joining the foundation, Darin served as Americas director for Virgin Unite, where he established the organization in the U.S. and Canada. Earlier, he worked in Italy for the United Nations World Food Programme, where he was responsible for programs in the Middle East and Southern Africa. While there, he had the opportunity to participate in the largest humanitarian operation in history—delivering food to Iraq.

Previously, Darin was the country director for Save the Children in the Balkans, where he established program operations in Montenegro to assist Kosovar refugees and developed educational programs in Bosnia. During this period, he also co-founded Bosnia’s first ecotourism company, Green Visions.

Darin has an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France, and speaks Serbo-Croatian.
