The Chicago Council on Global Affairs’ Girls in Rural Economies Project Announces New Funding and its Advisory Group | Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

CHICAGO --  The Chicago Council on Global Affairs today announces the addition of two funders – the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the United Nations Foundation – for its Girls in Rural Economies project, which received initial funding by the Nike Foundation as part of the Girls Count series. Additionally, the Council announces the formation of a high level advisory group for the project.

The advisory group is comprised of government, business, and civic leaders - international experts in the fields of gender, development, agriculture, entrepreneurship and informal employment, and health. They will oversee this initiative, launched by The Chicago Council in July 2010, which examines the role of adolescent girls in rural economies in the developing world, with a particular focus on rural girls’ participation in the agriculture and food sectors.
