Purpose
to build sustainable seed systems and increase nutritional and economic value capture for orange-fleshed sweet potato (OFSP) farmers, particularly women, in the West African countries of Ghana, Nigeria, and Burkina Faso. It will test and evaluate different approaches to integrating OFSP into diversified markets as a pathway to ensure the successful, accelerated introduction of a highly nutritious product that combats vitamin A deficiency into the food economy. Additionally, a public health component will enable ante-natal care practitioners to provide nutritional information and access to OFSP planting material to pregnant mothers, ensuring supply of a cheap source of vitamin A to mothers and their infants.
