David Mukanga leads the Integrated Development team’s efforts to improve regulatory systems in Africa and the linkage between African regulatory systems and health care services. In that role, he supports the development of harmonized, transparent, and predictable regulatory systems that cover the life cycle of medical products at the national, regional, and continental levels. His work also involves supporting regulatory emergency preparedness and working with partners in Africa to facilitate development of new medical products and improve patient access to quality essential medicines.
David serves as chair of the African Medicines Regulatory Harmonization Partnership Platform, a collective of more than 30 funders and technical and advocacy partners, and he sits on the board of the Drug Information Association.
David has a combined 25 years of experience spanning regulatory affairs, health systems development, academia, clinical research, and product development. Before joining the foundation in 2013, he was the founding CEO of the African Field Epidemiology Network.
David received his professional training in pharmacy and public health at Makerere University and has a Ph.D. in international health from the Karolinska Institute.
