Improving Nutrition to Build Better Health
In the developing world, poor nutrition is the cause of millions of deaths; it plays a role in roughly half of the deaths of young children in poor countries.

The foundation focuses support on efforts to ensure that people receive both the amount of food they need and the vitamins and minerals essential for good health by:

  • Accelerating development and production of fortified foods
  • Developing staple crops with high levels of micronutrients
  • Ensuring access to fortified foods
  • Encouraging breastfeeding and improving the quality of food used for weaning

Poor Nutrition Backgrounder

No single action can solve the complex problems of poor nutrition. However, new micronutrient-rich foods and pilot programs that emphasize better feeding of infants and young children both show promise.
