Tualatin Valley Centers Receives $200,000 Grant for New Tigard Child and Family Center

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Tualatin Valley Centers, provider of mental health and addiction services throughout the Portland metropolitan area, today announced it has been awarded a $200,000 grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to aid the completion of its new Child and Family Center in Tigard.

"This generous gift from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will help Tualatin Valley Centers provide an array of services that can be tailored to meet the individual needs of children and families," said Mary Monnat, president and chief executive officer of Tualatin Valley Centers.  "Many families have been forced to seek services outside of their community or to place a child unnecessarily into a residential program in order to get the help they need. The completion of the Child and Family Center will allow us to help keep children in their homes and communities and to provide them with local access to specialized and intensive services, from birth to age 18."

Tualatin Valley Centers is currently in the final phases of its capital campaign, seeking an additional $57,200 to complete the center. Support for the Child and Family Center has come from a variety of public and private sources, including a Washington County Community Development Block Grant totaling $550,000; grants from Meyer Memorial Trust, $400,000; M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, $200,000; Spirit Mountain Community Fund, $150,000; Collins Foundation, $100,000; and Juan Young Trust, $30,000. Corporate contributors include Pearson Financial Group, $100,000; the Fred Meyer Challenge, $20,000; Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, $10,000; Interlogix, $10,000; Tuality Healthcare, $2,550; Bank of America, $2,500; and West Coast Bank, $1,000. Individual contributions totaling $23,750 have also been received.

The agency is hoping to open the center's doors in late July of 2002 and begin providing its enhanced array of services by the fall.
