Child Abuse Prevention Foundation Receives $90,000 Gift from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

OAK HARBOR, Wash. -- The Child Abuse Prevention Foundation (CAPF) today announced a gift of $90,000 from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support the opening of the Oak Harbor Crisis Nursery in Oak Harbor, Wash. Patterned after the successful "In a Pinch" crisis nursery in Clinton, Wash., the new Oak Harbor facility will be a place where parents can find "rest and relief" from the daily pressures of parenting while accessing community services that assist in dealing with stresses at home.

"Crisis nurseries have been proven to reduce the incidences of child abuse and neglect in communities where they operate," said Robin Hertlein, Executive Director of the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation. "This gift from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will provide assistance for many parents who are in need of a 'time out' from the daily stresses of parenting."

In addition to the gift from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation received support from Wells Fargo Bank and Group Health/Kaiser Permanente Foundation. The Oak Harbor Crisis Nursery is scheduled to open later this year.
