BREMERTON, Wash. -- The Admiral Theatre today announced a $300,000 gift from Bill and Melinda Gates to support ongoing programs at one of Bremerton's most prized community centers. The Admiral Theatre, which reopened in 1997 after $4.2 million renovation, is the cornerstone for the revitalization efforts in downtown Bremerton.
"The citizens of Bremerton and Kitsap County are grateful for the generous gift from Bill and Melinda Gates. The Admiral Theatre plays a large role in enhancing the quality of life for the community, as well as thousands of visiting military families," said Katherine Hase, development director for the Admiral Theatre.
Because of the geographic barriers Bremerton and Kitsap County face, the Admiral Theatre is one of a few creative and cultural facilities in the area. "The Admiral Theatre is more than just the place of great performances. It is a place where our entire community comes together for entertainment, appreciation of arts, and often, a place to be uplifted and inspired," said Ruth Enderle, executive director.
The Admiral Theatre's volunteer corps provides ushers, ticket takers and hospitality services during all theatre events. The Theatre is supported only in part by public funds so private sources of funding must continue to be secured to ensure quality programming and affordable tickets.
