Deputy Director, Public Engagement and Insights

Melanie Brown leads a team that engages partners and other stakeholders and generates strategic insights in support of the North America Team’s priorities. This includes cultivating partnerships with communities of color, faith communities, the private sector, among others, and producing critical data on political and social trends in the United States.

Before joining the foundation in 2015, Melanie worked at The Heinz Endowments in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She began her career as an educator, teaching English in Washington, D.C., Beijing, China, and Hong Kong.

Melanie is a Senior Atlantic Fellow in Social and Economic Equity at the London School of Economics.

A Pittsburgh native, Melanie holds a bachelor degree from American University and master’s degrees from Harvard and Carnegie Mellon University. She and her family live in Washington, D.C.
