Jaime Zapata

Deputy Director, Channel Strategy and Audience Engagement

Jaime Zapata oversees all of the foundation’s public-facing digital communications channels—including its website and Ideas story section, executive social media accounts, and The Optimist e-newsletter—and a broad array of digital marketing efforts. He works closely with colleagues across the foundation, including those based in regional offices around the globe.

Before joining the foundation in 2022, Jaime was a partner at GMMB, an award-winning strategic communications firm. He also served in the executive and legislative branches of the U.S. government, in roles that included acting assistant secretary for public affairs in the Department of Labor during the Obama Administration and communications director for members of Congress and for the U.S. House Committee on Small Business.

Jaime has a B.S. in political science and international relations from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and a master’s degree in media and public affairs from George Washington University.

Jaime was born in Colombia. He is a native Spanish speaker and is proficient in French.
