David Blazes
Dr. David Blazes leads a team that supports advancements in burden-of-disease modeling, geospatial mapping, next-generation genetic sequencing of pathogens with epidemic potential, and wastewater surveillance of enteric and diarrheal diseases. He joined the foundation in 2016 after serving as a physician epidemiologist in the U.S. Navy.
David’s academic work has appeared in Science, Nature, and The Lancet Infectious Diseases, and he edits a textbook on technological innovations in disease surveillance. He has served on the Institute of Medicine’s Forum on Microbial Threats and the Infectious Disease Society of America’s Global Public Health Committee/Pandemic Influenza Task Force, and he currently serves on the National Academy of Science’s Board on Health Sciences Policy.
David graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and did his medical training at Johns Hopkins University. Outside of work, he enjoys endurance running and cycling.
