Dana DeRuiter

Dana DeRuiter leads the foundation’s government relations, policy advocacy, and communications efforts in North America. Her team, based in Washington, D.C., and Seattle, develops and implements strategies to mobilize resources, political commitment, and public engagement to advance the foundation’s goals.
Before joining the foundation in 2014, Dana served in a variety of global health policy roles within the U.S. government. These included director for global health on the staff of the National Security Council at the White House, a position she held during different periods in the George W. Bush and Obama administrations. Her federal tenure also included positions at the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and the U.S. Agency for International Development.
Earlier, Dana spent four years working at a faith-based nonprofit organization that focused on international development.
Dana hails from Michigan and has a bachelor’s degree from Calvin College and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Chicago.
