Dana DeRuiter oversees the foundation’s federal government relations in the United States.

Dana’s career in global health policy has included a variety of positions within the U.S. government, including director for global health on the staff of the National Security Council at the White House, a position she held during different periods in the George W. Bush and Obama administrations. Dana’s federal tenure also included positions at the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). 

Earlier, Dana spent four years working at a faith-based nonprofit organization that focused on international development.

She joined the foundation in 2014.

Dana hails from Michigan and has a bachelor’s degree from Calvin College and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Chicago.
