Anne Maria Makhulo

Anne Maria Makhulo

Deputy Director, Strategy, Planning and Management

Anne Maria Makhulo supports various foundation program teams in developing and executing their strategies.

Before joining the foundation, Anne Maria worked with the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), an organization whose mission is to catalyze agricultural transformation in Africa. Her work ranged from managing strategic partnerships and platforms to strategy development, implementation planning, organizational design, and change management. She helped conceptualize, launch, and manage the Partnership for Inclusive Agricultural Transformation in Africa (PIATA), which aims to create alignment and reduce fragmentation in agricultural development.

Earlier, she was a management consultant with Dalberg Advisors, working with governments, development partners, and private companies primarily in agriculture, inclusive finance, youth programming, and organizational development. She serves on the board of Bridges to Prosperity, a nonprofit that develops rural infrastructure with a vision to create a world in which poverty caused by rural isolation no longer exists.

Anne Maria is driven by a vision of “development as dignity,” in which poverty is drastically reduced for better quality of life and the dignity of those affected by poverty is upheld and their voices included. She grew up in Nairobi, Kenya, a child of civil servants and the seventh in a family of eight children. She holds a B.S. in actuarial science from the University of Nairobi and worked as an actuarial analyst before her transition to international development.
