Recent scientific advances have created enormous opportunities to reduce the impact of pneumonia - the leading cause of child deaths in the developing world. There are now proven vaccines available to protect against the major causes of pneumonia, and progress is being made in introducing them through GAVI. However, more innovation and resources are needed to prevent and treat childhood pneumonia.
