Rice is a staple food for billions of people around the world, yet rice crops are fragile—an entire season’s harvest can be destroyed by too much water or not enough. One of the foundation’s partners, The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), is working to develop new varieties of rice that are drought- and flood-tolerant.
