Gates Foundation Names Dr. Orin Levine to Lead Vaccine Delivery | Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

SEATTLE -- The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation today announced that Dr. Orin Levine has been named Director of Vaccine Delivery, within the Global Development Program. Levine is currently Professor of International Health and Executive Director of the International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC) at the Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health. He will start work at the foundation on October 1.

“Dr. Levine is a recognized expert in the fields of international public health, immunization, child survival and pneumonia, and we are very fortunate to have him join the foundation,” said Chris Elias, president of the foundation’s Global Development Program. “His leadership at IVAC has accelerated global access to vaccines, helping save millions of lives each year.”

“I am excited and honored to be joining the Gates Foundation,” said Dr. Levine. “I look forward to working towards the foundation's mission by using innovations to address some of the most difficult challenges in vaccine delivery.”

Prior to leading IVAC, Dr. Levine led GAVI’s PneumoADIP, an effort that has helped to accelerate pneumococcal vaccine introductions by 7-10 years over historical precedents. More recently, he served as a Steering Committee Member of the Decade of Vaccines Collaboration (DoVC), and the Co-Chair of the DoVC Global Access Working Group, and as President, Committee on Global Health, American Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene.

Dr. Orin Levine graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and received a PhD in epidemiology from The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland.
