The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Global Citizen and FC Barcelona Announce Partnership to Beat Extreme Poverty
SAN FRANCISCO (July 23, 2015) – FC Barcelona, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Global Citizen today announced they have joined forces and are launching a campaign called “Beat Extreme Poverty” to further the movement to end extreme poverty. The campaign will engage millions of people to learn about global issues, while taking meaningful actions in support of the world’s poor. 2015 marks a turning point for the future of the planet. At September’s United Nations General Assembly, world leaders will set global goals that will form a roadmap for how we’ll tackle poverty, inequality and climate change. Therefore, FC Barcelona, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Global Citizen’s partnership comes at a crucial time to help make sure millions of people around the world not only understand the goals, but have the opportunity to take effective and meaningful actions.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to Fund Disease Surveillance Network in Africa and Asia to Prevent Childhood Mortality and Help Prepare for the Next Epidemic
SEATTLE (May 6, 2015) – At its Global Partners Forum, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will announce the Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance Network (CHAMPS), a network of disease surveillance sites in developing countries. These sites will help gather better data, faster, about how, where and why children are getting sick and dying. This data will help the global health community get the right interventions to the right children in the right place to save lives. The network will also be invaluable in providing capacity and training in the event of an epidemic, such as Ebola or SARS. The Gates Foundation plans an initial commitment of up to $75 million on the effort.

New Chief Digital Officer Joins Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
SEATTLE, WA, USA (March 19, 2015) – The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation today announced that Todd Pierce will join the organization in the newly created role of Chief Digital Officer. He comes to the foundation from salesforce.com where he served as Senior Vice President of the Healthcare and Life Sciences industry. Prior to salesforce.com, Pierce was Chief Information Officer at Genentech and for the County of Santa Clara, California, and held technology leadership roles at Roche and Veteran’s Affairs. Additionally, he has held key positions on multiple non-profit and foundation boards.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and CureVac Collaborate to Accelerate the Development of Transformative Vaccine Technology
SEATTLE, WA, USA and TÜBINGEN, GERMANY (March 5, 2015) – The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and CureVac today announced that the foundation has made a commitment to invest $52 million (€46 million) in CureVac, a leading clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company specializing in mRNA-based vaccine technologies. As part of the agreement, the foundation will also provide separate funding for several projects to develop prophylactic vaccines based on CureVac’s proprietary messenger RNA (mRNA) platform. In addition, CureVac’s longstanding investor dievini Hopp BioTech announced a commitment of $24 million (€21 million) of additional equity.
