Shunsuke (Shun) Mabuchi oversees the foundation’s engagement with the Global Financing Facility and the World Bank to help them successfully deliver on their mandates. He also advises the Global Delivery team on health systems strengthening and other partner engagements.
Before joining the foundation in 2018, Shun led large-scale health programs in many countries in Africa as a task team leader and senior health specialist at the World Bank Group. These programs included the World Bank Group’s Ebola emergency response in West Africa, its polio eradication support project in Nigeria, and efforts to strengthen primary health care systems in Tanzania, Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Somalia.
Earlier, Shun worked on strategy development, turnarounds, and operational reforms for private and public organizations in several countries as a consultant at McKinsey & Company; he also managed multisector development projects at the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
Shun holds a doctor of public health (Dr.P.H.) from Johns Hopkins University and master’s in public policy and public health from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
