Lutheran World Relief Receives Grant to Help Displaced Sudanese Return Home

Hopes among more than three million people in Sudan were raised with the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Accord, created to end Africa 's longest-running conflict. Driven from their homes and communities by more than two decades of war there, this massive wave of internally displaced people returning to their home areas raises many challenges in the process. And an urgent need for support.

New Grants Help CARE Save Lives in Darfur - Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

ATLANTA -- Three American philanthropies have committed a total of $2.5 million to CARE to meet the urgent needs of people who have been harmed by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Darfur. In separate pledges, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Howard G. Buffet Foundation have each contributed $1 million toward CARE’s work in Darfur, and Pam Omidyar’s Humanity United has pledged $500,000.

Save the Children Receives $1 Million Gates Foundation Grant to Assist Displaced Families in West Darfur

WESTPORT, CT -- Save the Children announced today that it has received a $1 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for a water and sanitation project in West Darfur, Sudan. The grant will help the agency provide sanitation facilities and clean drinking water to more than 55,000 displaced children and family members forced to flee their homes and live in temporary shelters due to continued violence.
