Save the Children Receives $1 Million Gates Foundation Grant to Assist Displaced Families in West Darfur
WESTPORT, CT -- Save the Children announced today that it has received a $1 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for a water and sanitation project in West Darfur, Sudan. The grant will help the agency provide sanitation facilities and clean drinking water to more than 55,000 displaced children and family members forced to flee their homes and live in temporary shelters due to continued violence.

International Medical Corps Receives Grant for Emergency Response in Kenya
LOS ANGELES -- International Medical Corps (IMC) today announced a $2.6 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support its emergency response to the unfolding humanitarian crisis following Kenya's contested presidential election last month. With thousands lacking medical care, housing, and income, the foundation's support will be used to expand IMC's outreach among the estimated half million Kenyans now in need of immediate assistance.

CARE, Save the Children, and World Vision Receive Grants for Emergency Response in Myanmar
SEATTLE -- The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has awarded $1 million grants to three organizations—CARE, Save the Children, and World Vision—working to address the most pressing needs resulting from Cyclone Nargis. Each organization has extensive experience in Myanmar and strong teams already on the ground. The funding will be used to meet the immediate food, water, shelter, sanitation, and health needs of hundreds of thousands of people who were affected by the cyclone. It will also support reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s thoughts are with the people of Haiti in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck on January 12, 2010. We have awarded three grants to respond to the immediate-, medium-, and long-term needs of those affected by the earthquake.
