A high-quality education gives young people the best opportunity to live healthy, productive lives. This is especially true for families working to lift themselves out of poverty. In Washington state, we focus on promoting successful education outcomes for all students through a holistic approach, starting at birth and culminating in a college degree or a certificate.
High-Quality Early Learning
We work with partners toward high-quality and affordable early learning opportunities for our state’s children—to ensure that every child enters kindergarten ready to learn and succeed.

Education and Community Partnerships
We work with education partners across the state to seek changes that help put great teachers in every classroom and that give teachers and students the support they need to succeed. We encourage community groups and families to improve the quality of support that every student receives.
A Focus on South Seattle / South King County
One of our most intensive education investments is
The Road Map for Education Results in South Seattle and South King County, a region with some of the lowest school achievement rates in our state.
The Road Map is a coalition of education, community, and family partners committed to doubling the number of students who are on track to earn a postsecondary credential by 2020, and eliminate all achievement gaps.
Our Postsecondary Work in Washington State
In today’s economy, high school isn’t enough. A postsecondary credential is the gateway to the middle class, a good job, and a secure future. In fact, by 2020, nearly
70 percent of jobs in Washington state will require a postsecondary degree. That’s why the focus of our work in the United States, and right here in Washington, is to help more students get to—and get through—college successfully.

Current Grant Opportunities: Investing in Innovations in Education
While most of our education grants in Washington state directly fund organizations that are independently identified by our staff, we also frequently accept Letters of Inquiry (LOI) focused on specific education issues, so we can support innovative collaborations to improve educational outcomes for children. Any currently available education opportunities will be listed
here.
Additional grant opportunities may be available through partnerships with our intermediaries like the CCER Small Grants Fund, Washington STEM, and Next Generation Learning Challenges. For information, please refer to their websites.
