Melinda Gates and Philippe Dauman: Changing the Status Quo

In this video, Melinda Gates talks about one of the student she remembers most vividly from 10 years’ worth of visits to schools nationwide: a former gang member in South Los Angeles, who explained to her the biggest difference between her neighborhood and his regarding the view of education. His point of view, Gates says, is one reason for the creation of the Get Schooled initiative. “It shouldn’t take a miracle for kids to go to college.”

Viacom President and CEO Philippe Dauman joins Gates to introduce the 30-minute documentary “Get Schooled: You Have The Right” and the three stars of the film who used education to turn their lives into success stories.
