Gates Foundation Names Dr. David Shoultz to Lead Grantee and Partner Engagement

SEATTLE (February 26, 2013) — The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation today announced that Dr. David Shoultz has been appointed Director of Grantee and Partner Engagement. Previously a Deputy Director with the foundation’s Global Health Program, Dr. Shoultz has worked closely with a number of the foundation’s grantees and partners. He joined the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in April 2009.

Dr. Shoultz is responsible for advancing the foundation’s commitments to have quality interactions, clear and consistent communication, and ongoing feedback with grantees. He will ensure that the foundation’s partnerships remain strong and continue to improve in order to achieve our collective goals.

Prior to joining the foundation, Dr. Shoultz was a member of the senior management team for several different international clinical research organizations.  He has served on a number of non-profit boards, including OneWorld Health and the Geneva Foundation, where he also serves as the inaugural Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee.

Originally from the Hawaiian island of O’ahu, Dr. Shoultz is an alumnus of Punahou School.  He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington, and received both a MS and PhD in epidemiology from the University of Washington School of Public Health.  His MBA is from the Albers School of Business and Economics at Seattle University.  He remains on faculty at both the University of Washington and Seattle University.
