Together, Bill and Melinda Gates Explain Why They Are Impatient Optimists, and Invite Their Audience to Share the Living Proof

In their conclusion, Bill Gates talks about why he and Melinda are optimistic. He details the drop in child mortality, and states his belief that we can cut child mortality in half again, and soon. He also uses a graph to show the cumulative, positive effect of vaccines, malaria interventions, newborn care, and new vaccines and drugs for diarrhea and pneumonia, in greatly reducing child mortality.

This chapter is an excerpt from a presentation at Sidney Harmon Hall in Washington, D.C. Bill and Melinda Gates explained why they are Impatient Optimists, and encouraged their audience to share the proof and become Impatient Optimists as well.

“LIVING PROOF: Why we are Impatient Optimists” is a story about success. Millions of lives have been saved, improved and empowered because of the investments in global health made by the United States and its partners around the world.
