Melinda Gates Talks About the Plummeting Costs of AIDS Drugs, and Introduces Us to a Girl Who is Living Proof of Their Impact
Is there an argument for optimism when it comes to HIV/AIDS? Melinda Gates talks about the greatly increased number of people receiving anti-retroviral treatments, the huge price-decline for these drugs over the past few years, and the resulting, increased buying power for U.S.-funded programs.
She also introduces us to a little girl from South Africa, who is just one illustration among many of the Lazarus effect.
This chapter is an excerpt from a presentation at Sidney Harmon Hall in Washington, D.C. Bill and Melinda Gates explained why they are Impatient Optimists, and encouraged their audience to share the proof and become Impatient Optimists as well.
“LIVING PROOF: Why we are Impatient Optimists” is a story about success. Millions of lives have been saved, improved and empowered because of the investments in global health made by the United States and its partners around the world.
