Highlights From The Impatient Optimists Speech

Watch Highlights From Bill & Melinda Gates' Impatient Optimists Speech, Including HIV/AIDS Advances, Drug Cost Reductions, and Impact on Mother and Child Health

From their introduction on stage at the beginning of the speech, to the standing ovation at the end, watch highlights from the Impatient Optimists speech from October 27, 2009. These best moments include Bill Gates thanking U.S. government programs, showing off the most beautiful picture he’s ever seen, and detailing the huge reduction in global newborn deaths. For her part, Melinda Gates highlights HIV/AIDS advances, reduction in drug costs, and the impact that maternal and newborn health has on actually reducing populations.

This chapter is a collection of highlights from the presentation at Sidney Harmon Hall in Washington, D.C. Bill and Melinda Gates explained why they are Impatient Optimists, and encouraged their audience to share the proof and become Impatient Optimists as well.

“LIVING PROOF: Why we are Impatient Optimists” is a story about success. Millions of lives have been saved, improved and empowered because of the investments in global health made by the United States and its partners around the world.
