Homeless Families in Washington State Secure Homes and Higher-Paying Jobs

The majority of families who participated in Sound Families, our service-enriched, transitional housing program, obtained permanent housing at exit according to a 2007 evaluation by the University of Washington School of Social Work.

The evaluation also shows that:

  • 75 percent of the families participating in the evaluation remained in the program until graduation.
  • 68 percent of those families secured permanent housing. One year later, just 6 percent had become homeless again.
  • Nearly half of families (48 percent) increased their incomes during the program.
  • 25 percent of families were evicted for violating rules or because of addictions, mental health problems, or domestic violence issues.
