Impact Model and Optimization Analysis for Nutrition in Developing Countries

RFP Number: SOL1005699
Open Date: June 30, 2009
Proposals Due: August 4, 2009

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is asking select organizations - by invitation only - to submit a proposal for managing a multi-institutional research, analysis, and modeling agenda effort that will enhance global understanding of and support for effective policy and planning related to a limited set of nutritional issues in developing countries. These issues include several key micronutrient deficiencies and early childhood stunting. It is expected that the lead institution will shape the overarching vision for a multi-institution collaboration and drive the work set forth in this Request for Proposal to achieve the desired vision.

The program of work invited here includes distinct but related analyses, including: (a) building a high resolution understanding of the size and scope of select micronutrient deficiencies and early childhood stunting by sub-populations and as they relate to other health conditions displayed both quantitatively and geospatially; (b) modeling the health, cognitive, and – when possible – economic impact of addressing micronutrient deficiencies or stunting for different sub-populations; (c) developing recommendations about the optimal mix of interventions to address micronutrient deficiencies under at least three different country contexts, with varying assumptions to help prioritize current investment and potential future R&D investments. The work will also include prioritizing information gaps and managing a peer review process of the work.

Please note: Proposals are limited to 20 pages total and all applications must be in English. The maximum budget for this grant is $1,200,000.
