How to Apply for a Pacific Northwest Grant

If your project meets our criteria, you may submit an initial grant application, referred to as a Letter of Inquiry or LOI, through our online portal. Please start on this page for descriptions of the current opportunities to apply for funds from the Pacific Northwest Initiative. Foundation staff will review all submitted LOIs.

Steps to Apply for a Grant

  1. Create an account: The first time you visit the portal you will need to create an account. After you enter your information, a temporary password will be emailed to you. Return to our online portal to personalize your password and complete your account profile.
  2. If you are not sent directly to the LOI you wanted to apply for, choose from the available list of opportunities to find the Pacific Northwest grant opportunity you wish to apply for.
  3. Download the LOI guidelines: The guidelines provide directions regarding the format and content of your LOI, and more detailed information on the nature of the funding opportunity. You can download the guidelines after you create your account and access the portal.
  4. Attach your LOI: After you have completed your account profile, you will be asked to attach an LOI. You will be able to review your LOI, make any changes, and save it prior to submitting it to the foundation.

Please note: It’s not necessary to mail a duplicate hard copy of your LOI, and we cannot accept additional attachments such as brochures, videos, etc. We encourage all applicants to use our online portal for the most rapid response to your application. If you cannot submit your LOI online, please contact the foundation for an LOI form.

Next Steps (By Invitation Only)

Submission of Additional Information

If your LOI is identified for potential funding, you will be notified by staff and invited to supply further information through a brief phone interview. Subsequent submission of supplemental materials may or may not be requested in the phone interview. A request for additional information does not guarantee funding.

Review and Funding Determination

Staff members review your materials carefully, and make funding decisions based on the applicants’ written submissions and on their conversations with applicants. In addition to determining whether the proposed project supports the foundation’s priorities, staff will assess the feasibility and sustainability of the project.
