Funding for Scholarships

Our Scholarships initiative funds college tuition for promising low-income and minority students through five scholarships. Qualified students who meet the individual eligibility guidelines for each scholarship may apply. See the Scholarships topic page for more information.

Funding Priorities

We're funding scholarships to expand access to college for low-income and minority students and to encourage public service and leadership in the following ways:

Remove financial barriers for low-income students who are ready for college.

Help low-income students get ready to succeed in college.

Sponsor future leaders committed to improving the lives of others.

SCHOLARSHIPS

D.C. Achievers
Students at six Washington, D.C. high schools who live in Ward 7 or 8 and plan to attend college.

Gates Millennium Scholars
African Americans, American Indians/Alaska natives, Asian Pacific Americans, and Hispanic Americans with academic promise, unmet financial need, and demonstrated leadership.

Washington State Achievers
Students at 16 Washington State "Achievers High Schools" who plan to attend college within the state.

Gates Cambridge Scholars
Post-graduate students committed to addressing global problems related to health, equity, technology, and learning.
