About Probigua and Biblioteca del Congreso
Probigua's library network creates public libraries in rural communities and enables the people of Guatemala to receive free formal instruction in using computers. The Biblioteca del Congreso permits more than 14 million residents within the greater Buenos Aires area free access to information and technology 24 hours a day.

Probigua received a $250,000 award. The award allowed Probigua to:
  • Create five more computer training centers
  • Equip 25 public libraries with computers
  • Provide free computer training for the public
Biblioteca del Congreso received a $250,000 award. The award allowed the Biblioteca to:
  • Establish two mobile libraries
  • Provide computer and Internet access to Buenos Aires's poorest neighborhoods
  • Update and expand its 24-hour public computer center
From the city of Antigua to remote villages, Probigua's public library network is offering the people of Guatemala access to books and digital information. In a country with few government-supported public libraries in rural communities, these libraries are important sources of free access to information.

When the city is sleeping, the lights and sounds of the Biblioteca del Congreso continue to keep Buenos Aires bustling. Open 24 hours, the library sees a steady stream of users coming in to read, study, and use the Multimedia Room. Where many libraries in Argentina have limited hours and charge user fees, the Biblioteca is unique. With the award monies, the Biblioteca del Congreso launched a Mobile Library (the "Bibliomóvil") made up of two containers that were created by the Argentine Navy, with access to computers and the Internet, as well as cultural videos and books.
