Richard “Dick” Lake, director, Global Security, leads the team that is responsible for the security of the foundation’s resources and people worldwide.
Prior to joining the foundation in 2013, Dick served for over 36 years in the U.S. Marine Corps rising to the rank of Major General. He led and served in multiple deployments around the globe, including humanitarian, peace-keeping, contingency, and combat operations. He also had multiple tours focused on security operations, as well as in adult education, serving on the faculty of the Marine Corps Basic School, the Marine Corps University, and as the Professor of Naval Science at The Citadel. In recent assignments, Dick effectively advocated for changes and developed and implemented policies across the U.S. government, resulting in increased interoperability, common training and reporting standards, and increased efficiency.
Dick graduated with honors from The Citadel with a B.A. in Modern Languages. He also earned an M.S. in Strategic Intelligence from the Defense Intelligence College, and an M.A. in Management and Supervision from Central Michigan University.
