Girindre Beeharry is the director of the foundation’s India Country Office. He helped guide an expansion of the foundation’s engagement in India beyond the HIV/AIDS program where the work began. In his current role, he oversees the foundation’s work in health, sanitation, financial inclusion, and agriculture, in service of India’s most vulnerable communities.
Girindre previously served as director of Global Health Strategy at the Gates Foundation, where he worked to ensure that the development of new, life-saving, health interventions was accompanied by strategies to guarantee they could be accessed by the people for whom they were developed.
Prior to joining the foundation in 2005, Girindre worked in business development for immunization at Becton, Dickinson, and Co. He also worked as a senior health economist in the Latin America and Caribbean Region at the World Bank from 1997 to 2002.
Girindre read Economics at the universities of Paris and Oxford. He has worked in Latin America, Asia, and Africa since 1994.
