Tim Petersen, deputy director, Country Operations on the Polio Team, leads a team that coordinates with partners and countries to address challenges in polio endemic and outbreak countries.  Tim works closely with the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, countries and across foundation teams to support country operations and ensure technical strategies and resources in place to achieve polio eradication.

Prior to joining the foundation as senior program officer on the Vaccine Preventable Diseases team in 2008, Tim was at the World Health Organization (WHO) National Polio Surveillance Project in New Delhi, India where he served as the deputy project manager, Operations.  Prior to this he served on assignment  from the Global Immunization Division, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a technical officer with the WHO in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia working on polio eradication, measles mortality reduction and routine immunizations issues.

He has also worked as a Health Research Scientist in the Health Services Research and Evaluation Branch, Immunization Services Division, National Immunization Program, CDC Atlanta and with CityMatch, a non-governmental organization assisting large urban health departments in the United States to address maternal and child health issues.

Tim received a MPH degree in International Health/Policy and Management from Emory University School of Public Health and undergraduate degrees in Biology and Spanish from University of Nebraska.
