Other Grants to Support Sustainability of Public Access Computing
  • In June 2004, the foundation granted $95,000 to San Francisco-based Compumentor to study technology planning and technical support services for public libraries.
  • The foundation is working with the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) to create workshops to train library staff to more effectively reach Spanish-speaking library patrons and improve access to technology ($471,900 awarded in August 2004).

State Partnership Program
From 1997 to 2003, the U.S. Library program funded approximately 47,000 computers in nearly 11,000 public libraries in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Partnership grants also have been awarded to six territories, commonwealths and associated states.
The first partnership was awarded in October 1997 to the Alabama Public Library Service to act as the pilot program for future state funding.
