Gates Library Foundation to give one-time Scholarship to University of Alabama library student

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Gates Library Foundation is giving a one-time scholarship to provide tuition for a Master's of Library and Information Studies degree and a non-credit internship in an Alabama public library.

The gift was announced today at a reception hosted by Bill and Melinda Gates to honor state librarians who are leading the way to providing Alabama library patrons access to technology, information and literacy.

The scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student entering the University of Alabama's Library and Information Studies graduate program in the fall of 1998. Individuals must show dedication to improving public libraries, and commit to working at least one year in a public library in Alabama after graduation. Selection will be made by staff from both the University and public library communities. Application forms and information will be distributed by the University.
