Reproductive and Maternal Health

Meeting a Growing Demand
Complications from pregnancy and childbirth are the leading causes of death among women of reproductive age in developing countries. At the same time, many women and men lack access to services to plan the number and timing of children they have.

The foundation concentrates its support on efforts to:

  • Increase access to contraceptives and other reproductive health supplies
  • Develop new methods and tools for reducing maternal illness and death, and for preventing unintended pregnancies
  • Integrate programs for HIV/AIDS with those for reproductive health
  • Build commitment and support for reproductive health

Reproductive and Maternal Health Backgrounder

Life improves when people have access to family planning services. But even as the demand for contraceptives has risen, family planning services are still unavailable in many parts of the developing world.

To use our resources most effectively, we fund projects that have the potential to provide the greatest benefit for the most people over the longest period of time. Our resource section for grant seekers has detailed information on our grantmaking priorities and processes.
